Assessing Digital Learning & Instruction

A Strategic Approach to Transforming Math Instruction

I am an educator that has always wanted to have student centered learning environments where every learner can thrive. Pursuing a Master’s in Education of Applied Digital Learning from Lamar University has helped me design a strategy to bridge theory into practice. This strategy includes my innovation plan where I use a flex blended environment, with project based learning, small group instruction, while integrating Progress Learning. I have extensively researched this combination in order to create an action research design outline, literature review, and action research plan to evaluate the impact of this approach. All of these parts together purposefully align to increase student outcomes in math and encourage student engagement through flexible, personalized learning experiences.

I began with the development of my innovation plan that uses a flex blended learning model tailored for my 3rd grade math class. This plan combines blended learning with digital tools, like Progress Learning. My plan promotes student agency, differentiated instruction, and the integration of technology to enhance student engagement and achievement. I used these elements to collectively make an action research outline that includes a framework that focuses on real world connections and lifelong learning in students.

My literature review reinforces this approach and supports flex blended with digital innovation. Researchers show that tools like Progress Learning will improve the academic outcomes of students through personalized pathways. Additionally the CSLE + COVA learning model validates the importance of student centered learning environments to promote motivation and a deeper understanding by allowing learners to have choice, ownership, voice, and authentic learning opportunities in a significant learning environment.

The action research component of my plan assesses the effectiveness of using Progress Learning in a flex blended model while following a mixed methods approach. All parts of the research are designed to align with my innovation plan and support ongoing improvement based on real classroom experiences. Basically, it is all about refinement for the future. By connecting my innovation plan, action research outline, literature review, and action research plan, I am building a model that responds to student success based off of in depth research. It has taught me to be intentional, reflective, and willing to take action for my learners.
